The Kingwood Christian Lions looked to add their second win in a row Friday, but the East Memorial Christian Academy Wildcats scored in the fourth quarter to take the win, 26-21.

The Lions (1-8, 1-5) trailed 6-0 after the first quarter, but that’s when Kingwood went to work.

Kingwood pulled out some trickery in the second quarter when the Lions ran a triple reverse pass for a touchdown. It started when quarterback Andrew Steele handed off to senior running back Eric Marshall, who in turn handed off to Justin Dickinson who handed back off to Steele. Steele then took the toss and hurled it 30 yards to Jacob Macreedy for the score. Derrick Lykins added the point-after attempt to put the Lions up 7-6. The Kingwood defense went right back to work, forcing a fumble that Kelly Gray recovered. A few plays later, Steele took the ball in from 6 yards to increase the lead to 14-6 following Lykins’ kick.

It was once again the Kingwood defense that stepped up as Dickinson intercepted a pass on the ensuing East Memorial possession and returned it 55 yards for the score. Holding a 21-6 lead with East Memorial driving late in the second quarter, the Kingwood defense stepped up once again in the half when Daniel Reeves intercepted a pass to stop the Wildcat scoring threat.

But in the second half, it was all East Memorial.

The Wildcats tacked on two scores in the third quarter before the fourth-quarter score put the game away.

The Lions return to action Friday in the regular-season finale at Meadowview. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
