Margaret Aleese Street, 86, of Alabaster, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28 at her home. She was a long time member of Alabaster First United Methodist Church. She was born in Jemison to W.R. and Evie Clements. Aleese was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and sisters and her loving husband of 38 years, J.W. (Bill) Street. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.
Aleese graduated from Jemison High School, attended Auburn University and graduated from business school in Birmingham. Early in her career as a secretary and bookkeeper, she was active in the Eastern Star and was a worth matron.
After moving to Shelby County she worked and retired from Hawkins Metal Products. Aleese touched many lives.
Her wit, humor and laughter will be long remembered. Although she had no children of her own, she along with Bill, were “parents,” “grandparents” and cheerleaders to many young people throughout life. Kids loved to visit “Street” because she spread her joy and laughter freely and loved life.
Services were held at First Presbyterian Church of Alabaster Cumberland-Elliotsville on Oct. 31, 2008, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Denise Mullaney officiated.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Burial followed at Still Memorial Elliotsville Cemetery.
