For the second time this season, Evangel could not overcome Freedom Academy of Huntsville as the Cowboys roped in Lightning to secure the NACA Championship in Dayton, Tenn., 28-6.

The Lightning (11-2) fell to Freedom 42-20 midway through the season, and turnovers plagued Evangel’s chance at redemption on Friday.

Evangel lost four fumbles, including one on the game’s opening drive, and one interception in the foggy, rainy mess.

The Cowboys opened up a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, and extended it to 20-0 at the half.

The Lightning got on the board in the third quarter off of a 3-yard Michael Entrekin touchdown run, but the two-point conversion pass failed.

With a 28-6 Cowboy lead going into the fourth quarter, both defenses held strong in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring.

Offensively for the Lightning, Jakan Sylestine led all rushers with 60 yards on seven carries, Entrekin had 30 yards on six carries and a touchdown and quarterback Henry Foster also had 30 yards on 12 carries.

Defensively for Evangel, Luke Webb led all defenders with 11 tackles.

Wesley Dean finished with eight tackles, while Collin Hipps and Foster finished with seven apiece.

Webb, Dean, Hipps, Foster and Hunter Burridge were all named to the All-Tournament team.
