Cornerstone Christian had little to show for its trip to the playoffs this season, falling at Patrician Academy, 56-8, Friday.

The Patrician Saints led 48-0 at halftime and then pulled back the reins in the second half.

Cornerstone eighth-grader Brandon Johnson scored the Chargers’ lone touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 37-yard run, followed by a 2-point run by Cory Woodall.

After appearing the state championship game last season, and losing a lot of talent off last year’s team, Cornerstone head coach Tim Smith was pleased to see his team return to the playoffs.

“I think they overachieved a little bit. We got better as the year went on, although it didn’t show tonight. WE got beat up about two weeks ago, and we could never overcome it. But to win six games this year and make it to the playoffs is huge.”

The Chargers (6-5) lose only one senior, Josh Dunnaway, and will return 12 juniors next season.

“We’ve got a lot of kids coming back. We’ve just got to get in the weight room and get stronger,” Smith said. “We should be a pretty decent football team.

Patrician (11-0) hosts Chambers next week in the AISA Class 1A semifinal. South Choctaw travels to Crenshaw Christian in the other semifinal.
