Davis campaign for governor can work

Dear Editor,

Congressman Artur Davis is widely rumored to be leaning towards declaring his candidacy for governor shortly after the New Year. Much like President-Elect Barack Obama, Davis is well-known despite his youth.

People will wonder if Alabama is capable of putting prejudice firmly in its past and electing a black person to be the chief executive of our state.

If Davis runs the type of campaign that he has in the past, speaking of Alabama’s values and challenges, and the solutions that will make Alabamians as proud of our state as we are of our sports teams, then yes he can. If Alabama voters practice the values we teach our children and not the values that were taught to our grandparents, then yes we can.
