A Birmingham woman died after her car struck a tree on Highway 52 in Helena Thursday night.

Heather Danielle Brown, 18, of Birmingham, apparently died instantly, said Helena Police Capt. Tim Carter.

A passenger, whose name has not been released, was seriously injured and was airlifted to UAB Hospital, according to Carter.

The one-vehicle wreck occurred at 11:33 p.m. near Helena Intermediate School.

The Shelby County Traffic Homicide Task Force is still investigating the cause of the wreck.
