City council makes appointments

The Pelham City Council made appointments to various boards and departments at its Nov. 17 meeting.

The council unanimously voted to appoint Connita Turner to the library board, Scott Brooks to the park and recreation board and Michael Kelley and Kerry Carter to the board of adjustments.

While Turner’s term expires in 2012, Brooks, Kelley and Carter’s terms expire in 2011.

The council also appointed Eddy Jowers as public works director. Jowers, who succeeds longtime director Ken Holler, will oversee the city’s water, sewer and street departments.

John McBrayer will now serve as Pelham and Calera’s municipal judge, and attorney Mickey Johnson was appointed municipal prosecutor. Both men will begin their terms Jan. 1.

Fire Chief Danny Endress honored Philip J. Lorino for graduating top of his class from Alabama State Fire College on Oct. 17.

Due to the city’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, the council will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1.
