Vincent boys win area opener

The Vincent Yellow Jackets hit the road Friday to open area play at Thorsby, winning easily, 54-37.

The Yellow Jackets attacked the Rebels early with a 21-7 first quarter and led 31-13 at the half. B.J. Hamilton led Vincent with 14 points, while Keyon Wallace had 12 points and 14 rebounds, 10 of which came off the defensive glass. Wallace also had seven blocks and one steal. HE shot 56 percent from the floor. Eddie Hubbard led Thorsby with six points.

Vincent (4-4, 1-0) hosts Shades Mountain on Tuesday.

-CHELSEA 70, CHILTON CO. 59: Chelsea continued the invasion of Shelby County teams into Chilton County, as the Hornets took down the Chilton County High Tigers with a strong second half. Alex Sturdivant scored 12 of his 16 points in the second half, helping Chelsea overcome a 10-point halftime deficit. Jonathan Antonetti posted a double-double, 18 points and 10 rebounds, to lead Chelsea, while Thomas Cusick had 11 points. Kenyon Floyd led Chilton with 20 points.

-MTN. BROOK 68, THOMPSON 67: A missed free throw and lay-up by Mountain Brook’s Marshall Burgin was enough to cap the Spartan’s comeback to down Thompson (2-6). Siddeeq Cooper led all scorers with 24 points for the Warriors, while Mountain Brook was led by Bobby Keim’s 24 points.

-SHADES VALLEY 47, SPAIN PARK 45: Spain Park (3-6) was unable to hand Shades Valley (8-1) back-to-back loses, as Christian Watford led the Mounties with 25 points. Josh Drum had 17 to lead Spain Park.

-MONTEVALLO 61, WEST BLOCTON 52: Brandon Lilly led the Montevallo Bulldogs with 25 points, while Kevin Callender and Tyler Wilson each scored 14. The win was Montevallo’s second straight after losing the season opener Nov. 28 at Calera.

-ALTAMONT 54, INDIAN SPRINGS 34: Indian Springs fell behind 16-5 in the first quarter, but was unable to recover after trailing by nine, 26-17, at halftime. Jonathan Alexander led the Knights on the road with 11 points, while Charlie Simpson scored most of Springs’ points with a team-leading 14.

-SHELBY ACADEMY 82, ENTERPRISE 25: The Shelby Academy Raiders improved to 3-0 with a strong showing at Enterprise Prep, jumping out to a 42-13 halftime lead. Chad King scored 22 points to lead the Raiders, while Jacob Lumpkin added 17. Sean Gilbert also scored in double-figures with 15 points.

-CORNERSTONE 62, DIXIE 36: Cornerstone handed Dixie academy (4-1) its first lost of the season Friday. J.V. McKinney scored over 20 points for the second straight game, leading the Chargers with 22 points. Stephen Bulger added 12 points. The Chargers had most of all of their players score in the game, including two seventh-graders, Blake Odgers and Tucker Youngblood. CCS (2-0, 2-0) will host Kingwood on Monday.

-COOSA VALLEY 89, ABBEVILLE 72: J.B. Ripley scored 35 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to even Coosa Valley’s record to 3-3 on the year. Point guard Christ Holcombe added 27 points, while Gage Holmes had 21.

-EVANGEL 57, ALETHIA 50: Evangel advanced to Saturday’s Torch Classic final with the help of 19 points and nine rebounds from Matt Ritchie. He also had four blocked shots. Collin Hipps added 13 points, while Micah Mularski had 12. The tournament is being played at Tabernacle Christian in Gardnedale.

In girls’ action:

-MONTEVALLO 67, WEST BLOCTON 17: Amber Cardwell posted a double-double, 20 points and 11 rebounds, to lead the Buldogs, while Alisha Gentry scored 15 and grabbed eight rebounds. Gentry also had five steals and five assists. Montevallo (5-1) outscored West Blocton 32-2 in the opening quarter before pulling its starters. Shanise Hudson had eight points and five steals.

-SHADES VALLEY 64, SPAIN PARK 36: Shades Valley collected 50 points from three scorers Friday, as Spain Parks’ Jasmine Baldwin and Colby Ryan scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

-ALTAMONT 51, INDIAN SPRINGS 23: Madi Turner had five points to lead Indian Springs (5-3) against rival Altamont.

-CORNERSTONE 48, DIXIE 33: Nichole Davis had 16 points, six assists and four steals to lead the Lady Chargers past Dixie, while Chelsey Dunnaway added 12 points and 11 rebounds. CCS improves to 2-0 on the season.

-COOSA VALLEY 46, ABBEVILLE 36:Freshman Lauren Archer scored 21 points to lift Coosa Valley over Abbeville. The Rebels outscored Abbeville 14-4 in the fourth quarter for the win. Amelia Ripley had 1 points, while Jordan Smiley had 15 rebounds.

-SHELBY ACADEMY 45, ENTERPRISE 20: The Shelby Raiders led 21-12 at halftime and never looked back. Sarah Glass led the Raiders with 19 points, while Savannah Smith had 18 points and 10 steals.

-PEOPLES 58, EVANGEL 47:Evangel fell short in the semifinal of the Torch Classic at Tabernacle Christian in Gardendale. Abby Letson led Evangel with 17 points, while Lisa Armstrong had 13 and Taylor Grammer had 11.
