Chelsea resident Amy Vines helped the Lakeshore Power win the 2008 Fall Power Soccer Tournament over the weekend at the Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham.

Vines and teammate Ann Fuqua scored their first power soccer goals in the tournament.

The Power defeated Atlanta’s Royalty, 3-1, followed by GJL Louisiana Lightening Hawks, 6-2 and then Jackson Jammers, 8-1. They finished off the tournament with a win against Carroll County Dominators, 4-2.

Lakeshore Power will head to St. Louis, Mo., for their next tournament on February 6th and then to Duluth, Ga., in March for the Southeast Regionals.

Power soccer is an indoor sport, played on a regulation basketball court. Teams consist of four power wheelchair users who use an oversized soccer ball to score goals. The U.S. Power Soccer Association has recently overhauled the rules, so that power soccer now more closely resembles the soccer played by athletes without disabilities.
