Pelham native Alison Young was named a volleyball Second Team All-American for the National Christian College Athletic Association. Young, a sophomore outside hitter at Bryan College in Tennessee, became the schools second volleyball player to receive All-American honors.

Young led the Lions in kills per game and aces per game. She was ranked as one of the top five hitters in the NCCAA Mid-East region, where she was an All-Region First Team selection. Young also finished the season ranked in the Top 20 in the NCCAA in kills and aces, and was recently selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s NAIA All-Region team as well. Not only was Young a team leader on the court, she has continued to thrive in the classroom, maintaining a 4.0 GPA, earning her a spot on the AAC Scholar-Athlete team.

“I am thrilled to see Alison selected to the All-American team this year,” said Bryan head coach Leo Sayles. “She was not just a prolific scorer for us this season, she emerged as a team leader. Her back-row play was just as important as her work in the front. She was much improved in her passing and blocking, and developed more power to add to her hitting arsenal. Her work ethic, court knowledge and competitive spirit were a major reason for our success on the court. She was a team leader in every offensive category, from passing to serving, to hitting, to defense. She was a work-horse for us all season, yet was consistent in every category.”

Young’s highs included a 17-kill match twice, once in a 3-0 victory over Montreat and the second in a 3-2 loss to King. She had five aces in victories over Asbury and Milligan, 21 digs in a victory over Montreat, eight double-doubles and 19 matches with double digits in kills.
