Family and friends gathered Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, to celebrate the life of Johnnie Austin, age 80, of Birmingham at the home of Donna and Steve McLaurin, Hoover, from 4-6 p.m. Graveside services were at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at Old Chapel Cemetery on 2045 Highway 9 in Wilsonville.
Mrs. Austin, who passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at home with family and her beloved Ms. Laura, was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Columbiana. She attended Columbiana High School where she acted as head cheerleader her senior year and was recognized as senior beauty. She had been married to Adam Austin 57 years before he passed away in 2004.
Mrs. Austin is survived by her children, Wanda Austin of Birmingham, Allen (Elizabeth) Austin of Birmingham, Janet (Craig) Austin Brasfield of Kensington, Md., Donna (Steve) McLaurin of Birmingham; grandchildren, Adam Justis and wife Kathy, Stevie, Ashley, Emily Ann, Anne Catherine, Tyler; great-granddaughter, Neala; brothers, David and Robert; and a sister, Sarah.
