The hottest ticket around gives you a seat at the second–annual “Have a Heart for the Arts” fashion show and luncheon on Feb. 7 from 11 a.m.–1 p.m.

The joint club fundraiser for the Shelby County Arts Council is sponsored by the Columbiana Culture Club, Novella Club and Vignette Club. Due to the sell–out crowd at the Columbiana United Methodist Church last year, the luncheon has been moved to a larger venue at the First Baptist Church of Columbiana.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the Shelby County Arts Council, Busy Hands and Donald Real Estate. Last year the event raised more than $2,500, which helped fund part of the operating budget for the council’s diverse programs.

The Arts Council serves more than 5,000 children in Shelby County with art enrichment programs and art therapy classes for special needs children. The council is expanding its program to broaden their reach from the Columbiana county seat to all over Shelby County. The council provides programs for senior citizens, summer theater camps for children and numerous art and music programs for students. They even provide scholarships for those in need. This year the SCAC is providing tickets and transportation for 1,700 children to hear the Alabama Symphony.

Donnalee Davis Blankenship, the first Miss Shelby County in 1988, will be the emcee for this year’s event. Donnalee will bring her sidekick “Granny” and perform her entertaining ventriloquist act at the luncheon.

Coldwater Creek from the Summit will provide the women’s fashions. Susannah Higgins, Miss Shelby County 2006, will be a featured model. Other models include Culture Club president Judy Quick and members Betty Broome, Ann Head and Karen Sweeney. President Phyllis French from the Vignettes will model along with Samantha Rush, and new member Elizabeth Shelton. Novella Club models will be Jan Beane, Stacy Walkup, Paula Wilder and Lisa Sallis. Strasbourg Children provided outfits for the adorable children.

Nancy Drakos and the Fish Market will cater the event, with members of the Columbiana Middle School Wildcats @ Work service organization serving.

Numerous door prizes will also be given away from some of Shelby County’s most noted artists, Bonnie Atchison, Susan Dennis, Stephanie Dikis, Phyllis French, Rachel Fowler, Donna Morris, Marjorie Nolen and many more.
