Funeral service for J.D. “Jack” Holcombe Jr., age 92, of Maylene, will be Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo. Burial will follow at Moore’s Cemetery in Montevallo. The Rev. Joe Raines and the Rev. Mike Byars will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Holcombe, who passed away Jan. 21, 2009, in Alabaster, was a member of First United Methodist Church of Alabaster. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army. He was stationed in Germany in 1945 and 1946. He was a long time employee for Alabama Power Co., beginning his career as a lineman and retiring as a foreman more than 37 years later. He was a faithful servant of his community doing voluntary work for the city of Alabaster Youth Ball Fields and Fire Department.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Cora Lee Holcombe; granddaughter, Wendy Holcombe; and siblings, Mary Sue Johnson, Margaret Barnett, Roy Holcombe, Virginia McDaniel and Buddy Holcombe.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda Barnett, and a very special son-in-law, Lawrence Barnett, of Maylene; son, Billy Jack Holcombe, of Alabaster; sister, Mildred Davis; grandchildren, Valerie Barnett Springer (Mick), Cindy Holcombe, Mark Barnett (Sharee) and Billy Holcombe Jr. (Terri); great-grandchildren, Ashlee Springer and Haley, Jadey, and Corey Barnett, Tabitha and Dillon Holcombe; and stepgrandchildren, Tiffany and Jessica Smith.
