If Joseph Habshey has his way, Helena will soon be the place to go for blushing brides.

Habshey, a prominent Helena businessman who owns much of Helena’s Old Town, is trying to help create a wedding district there. He’s halfway there, as Old Town already boasts a wedding planner, a bridal gown boutique, a photographer and a chapel, among others.

“We’d love to have it so when a person gets engaged, they can come to Helena, and plan the whole wedding from one end to the other,” Habshey said.

He’s looking to bring a jeweler, a travel agent and videographer to the area. Habshey said he’s so committed to the idea of the wedding district that he’s working on a possible legislative act to allow wedding licenses to be sold in Helena.

Habshey said Helena businesses need to focus on finding a niche.

“Have a one-of-a-kind item, that people can’t find anywhere else, that will bring people down here,” he said.
