The following students and teachers were recently selected as winners in the 2009 Shelby County Superintendent’s Art Show. A selection of these winners will be sent to the State Superintendent’s Art Show in Montgomery. All Shelby County Superintendent’s Show artwork will be on display March 1-12 at the Central Office in Columbiana, 8-4 daily. First place winners in each category and all state winners will be recognized at the March 12 board meeting.

Category I (all media, mixed media)

K-3 – first place, Meghan Butler, a third-grader in Amy Hartley’s class at CPES; second place, Lauren Beagle, a third grader in Holly Mullen’s class at Helene Intermediate School

4-6 – first place, Nealy Martin, a fourth-grader in Claire Caldwell at Oak Mountan Intermediate School; second place, Fernando Najeras, a fourth-grader in Gaile Randall’s class at Thompson Intermediate School

7-8 – first place, Carley Caulk, an eighth-grader in Mary Rodgers’ class at Riverchase Middle School; second place — Tempest Cantrell, a seventh-grader in Lonnie Moore’s class at Columbiana Middle School

9-10 – first place, Mary Helen Lawley, a sophomore in April Gaydosh’s class at Pelham High School; second place — Johnathan Sickles, a sophomore in Laura Alvord’s class at Shelby County High School

11-12 – first place, Emily Rich, a junior in Nicole McKinney’s class at Oak Mountain High School; second place – Courtnie Davis, a junior in Max Newton’s class at Chelsea High School
