Snow possible for Monday evening

There is a slight chance of snow Monday, according to the National Weather Service in Calera.

The center’s forecast for Monday includes a 70 percent chance of rain in the morning that could turn into snow that evening. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico is expected to collide with an advancing cold front from the North.

“It look like there will be at least a snowflake,” said meteorologist Jim Westland. “We’re not expecting anything significant right now, but we’ll keep looking at it.”

The National Weather Service’s web site predicts a 40 percent chance of snow Monday night with a low around 30 F.

But Westland said it’s too early to say whether or not there would be any accumulation.

“It’s pretty difficult forecasting this far out — it’s just a matter of timing,” said Westland.
