Seven county wrestlers entered the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A finals, but only one prevailed as Oak Mountain’s John Blakely pinned Terrance Smith of Robert E. Lee-Montgomery to take home the title in the 171-pound division.

Blakely was one of four wrestlers from Oak Mountain to make the finals, while Spain Park had two and Pelham had one.

Oak Mountain’s Tanner Moon lost a 5-0 decision to Vestavia Hills’ Robert Dyer in the 112-pound division; Davis Bagwell lost a 5-0 decision in the 152-pound division to Prattville’s John Hayden Countryman; and Chris Stubbings lost a 5-3 decision to Huntsville’s Blake Herrin.

The four Eagles in the finals were good enough to lift Oak Mountain to a third-place team finish. Vestavia took the overall championship, while Spain Park finished seventh, Pelham finished 12th and Thompson finished 26th.

Spain Park was powered by Geoffrey Bostany, who lost a 2-1 decision to Huntsville’s Jake Henson, and Reid Bishop, who lost via pin fall to Vestavia’s David Perry.

The Rebels also took advantage of Pelham’s lone finals wrestler as Henry Carlson won a 6-2 decision over the Panthers’ Taylor Anchors.

Spain Park’s Tommy Bostany took home fifth in the 103-pound division, Pelham’s Logan Huey took home fourth in the 112-pound division, Nick Hall of Thompson took home fifth in the 112-pound division, Bo Bishop of Spain Park took home fifth in the 152-pound division, Matt Pettibone of Pelham took home fifth in the 171-pound division, Josh Greer of Oak Mountain took home sixth in the 189-pound division and Whit Whitefield of Oak Mountain took home fifth in the 285-pound division.

In Class 5A, the Chelsea Hornets finished 14th, one spot ahead of rival Shelby County.

The Wildcats’ Jon Walden took home third in the 152-pound division after taking an 11-3 decision over Erwin’s Rodriguez Sharpe. While Chelsea’s Thomas Blottin took home fourth in the 189-pound division.
