Local high school students receive scholarships

Paul Carpenter has received a four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Collegiate Honors Scholarship valued up to $20,000. He is the son of Tonya Carpenter of Pelham.

Carpenter is a senior at Thompson High School. He is a member of the Spanish Club.

Julie Covington of Helena was awarded the Stewart Teacher Education Endowed Scholarship from UAB School of Education. The scholarship is worth $1,250 annually. Covington is a freshman at UAB and a member of the Marching Blazers and Wind Symphony. She is a graduate of Pelham High School.

Courtney Dunkerley is the recipient of a four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Golden Excellence Scholarship valued up to $30,000. She is the daughter of Jeff Dunkerley and Mary Lou Dunkerley. Dunkerley is a senior at Chelsea High School. She is a member of the National Honors Society and Mu Alpha Theta. At UAB, she will major in marine science.

Kelsey Harnish has received a four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Presidential Scholarship valued up to $48,000. She is the daughter of William Harnish, Jr. and Brock and Laurie Brinkerhoff of Alabaster.

Zachary Wright has received a four-year University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Collegiate Honors Scholarship valued up to $20,000. He is the son of Terry Wright and Karen Wright of Pelham. Wright is a senior at Hope Christian School. At UAB, he plans to major in pre-electrical engineering.

Harnish is a senior at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. At UAB, she will major in biomedical engineering.
