In transitional and unsettled times, it is good to remember a comforting biblical truth.

The truth is that God is in control.

It can be expressed, though not completely, in five statements. First, God has a plan.

He initiated it before the foundation of the world. It is a plan He has revealed that results in the praise of His glory and the good of those who believe. Ephesians 1:3-12 expresses this truth.

Second, God’s plan is not contingent, that is, it does not change with the circumstances as do the plans of human beings. Job 23:13 states, “But he is unchangeable, and who can turn him back? What he desires, that he does. (ESV)”

It has been stated that “He knows the end from the beginning.”

God carries out His plan deliberately.

“Whatever the LORD pleases, he does, in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all deeps.” (Psalm 135:6, ESV)

God’s plan is not implemented by accident or chance. It is moving toward the end He designed.

God’s plan includes all things that come to pass. This means that even things we may view as evil or accidental are accounted for and have been considered.

“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” (Roman 11:36, ESV)

The last statement is this, God’s plan will succeed. This is obvious as you read the last book in the Bible. Even though things seem chaotic, God is at work, carrying out His purpose. Perceiving this truth is an act of faith. May we all find grace to trust Him.

“Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. (Jude 1:24-25)”
