In an attempt to keep GSC fans on the pulse of the action, the Hoover-based Gulf South Conference is now posting updates on Twitter (www.twitter.com), a social networking site that focuses on media links and fan interaction.

The site, which allows fans and media to become followers of the league’s news releases, is free and brings additional national outlets to spread conference news, notes and quotes from various athletic events. Whether your familiar with the medium or not, setup is easy and free of charge.

After you’ve joined, simply search for “GulfSouth” and click “follow” to become a part of all the happenings around the GSC. Every time a news item becomes available, a new link will be added and you’ll be moments away from all your favorite teams across the league. This will also provide additional spotlight for the league’s sports, and can be updated numerous times throughout the course of a single day.

GSC Assistant Commissioner Mike Anderson said the move is an important attempt to broaden the scope of Division II athletics.

“It is very important that any media relations department uses all the necessary tools to promote their organization,” Anderson said. “Taking advantage of new innovations like Twitter is one of those tools and we hope it will bring new recognition to what we consider to be the premier Conference at the NCAA Division II level.”

This new endeavor began Tuesday, Feb. 10, with stories about the latest NABC poll and softball scores.
