The first cross-divisional Gulf South Conference series of the season for the University of Montevallo was moved to a Wednesday doubleheader as rain moved through Cleveland, Miss., Tuesday. UM’s series-opener at No. 12 Delta State University was postponed, with a doubleheader scheduled to be played at 2 p.m. today at Ferriss Field.

it is the first meeting between the two rivals since then No. 2 Delta held off a Montevallo rally to win the Gulf South Conference Tournament Championship at USA Stadium outside Memphis last May. UM beat Delta State, 11-2, earlier in the tournament.

Montevallo (4-2) has won both of its series played this year, taking two of three from Georgia Southwestern Feb. 1-2 and sweeping No. 34 Carson Newman on Saturday, 6-4 and 6-5, at home after losing Friday, 9-4. Delta (2-2) bounced back from an 0-2 start to beat Pfeiffer University, 8-4, and North Georgia, 6-3, over the weekend.
