Cassandra King – The Sunday Wife

If you are looking for a good book to read, look no further than The Sunday Wife by Cassandra King. The Sunday Wife is a story about a woman’s journey to independence and self-realization.

The main character, Dean, has been married for 20 years to the Rev. Benjamin Lynch who is handsome, ambitious and very controlling. As the story unfolds, Dean begins to question her husband and break free from the stereotypical role of the preacher’s wife. Often her husband is livid with the changes and members of the congregation are often aghast! But when a tragedy occurs in the community, Dean has to choose if she wants to continue as the Sunday wife or reach for something more.

If you want a little romance with humor thrown in, this is the book for you. Though it is set in the Florida panhandle you may encounter some characters that seem very familiar. Cassandra King lived for several years in Shelby County as a preacher’s wife. The Sunday Wife, like all her books, is an eloquent but also often lighthearted glimpse of the South as only Southerners can provide.

King has written four books: “Making Waves in Zion,” “The Queen of Broken Hearts,” “The Same Sweet Girls” and “The Sunday Wife.” All four copies of her books are available at public libraries in Shelby County. A native of L.A. (Lower Alabama) she now lives in South Carolina with her husband novelist, Pat Conroy.

Cassandra King will be appearing at the Pelham Public Library on Sunday, Feb. 22 from 2-4 p.m. to talk about her books, answer questions and sign copies of her books.
