For the second-straight year, Vincent boys’ basketball will advance to a Class 2A regional after the Yellow Jackets downed Ranburne, 66-57, at home Friday.

Vincent jumped out to a 20-7 lead early, but allowed Ranburne to hang around through the night within six to eight points — something Vincent head coach Stacy McGehee said will need to be fixed if his team wants to keep playing next week.

“WE just have to learn to play a little bit better with the lead,” McGehee said. “We’ve got to be a little bit smarter and have longer possessions than what we’re having.”

But that was the only major correcting point for the game, as the Jackets lowered their turnover total to 20 for the game and saw production from their bench.

Back-up post player Ben McKinney filled in for an injured Keyon Wallace and led the team with 17 points, while B.J. Hamilton posted a double-double 16 points and 15 rebounds. Senior Eric Arrowood had 12 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks.

Helping control the ball for Vincent was Devonta Williams with 10 assists and nine points, while Juwan Rogers had 10 points.

Daniel Chambers scored 25 points, including six 3-point baskets, to lead Ranburne and added 12 rebounds.

Vincent (17-9) will meet Fyfe in the first game of the Northeast Regional at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Jacksonville State University. Fyfe, who finished the season No. 10 in 2A, defeated Geraldine, 64-53, Friday.
