Unbeaten Jags advance in Metro Tourney

Former Oak Mountain pitcher Chase Traffica struck out nine and allowed two runs off five hits, as Spain Park beat Mountain Brook, 14-2, Tuesday to remain unbeaten in the Birmingham Metro Tournament.

The Jaguars (7-0) pushed across a run in both the first and second inning before adding four runs in the third, five in the fourth and three in the sixth.

Catcher Carter White was 4-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Hunter Walker was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Mikey White also drove in two runs and scored one off three hits.

Mountain Brook scored its runs in the third and fourth with RBIs from Matthew Burnick and Lee McNorton.

No games are played in the tournament Wednesday. Spain Park will meet defending metro tournament champion Thompson on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The tournament semifinal and final will be at Spain Park on Friday at 4 and 6 p.m.

-THOMPSON 3, PINSON VALLEY 1: Trent Lucas collected 10 strike outs and allowed two hits to lead Thompson to victory in the Birmingham Metro Tournament. Brantley Patton and Gus Willifield drove in runs for the Warriors.

-OAK MTN. 4, CLAY-CHALKVILLE 2: Oak Mountain picked up its fifth win of the season a David Dudchock two-run home run in the sixth inning broke a 2-2 tie in the Metro Tournament. Cary Baxter struck out 10 Clay-Chalkville batters in the win.

-PELHAM 16, PAUL BRYANT 0: Pelham used an 11-run first inning to blow past Paul Bryant. The Panthers (6-1) added five more runs in the third. Tripp Martin picked up the complete five-inning game win, striking out five of the 17 batters faced.
