Vols, UGA to meet in hockey final

Snow and ice won’t stop the Southeastern Hockey Conference Championship today at the Pelham Civic Complex, as the University of Tennessee is set to meet the University of Georgia in the championship game at 2 p.m.

Tennessee edged Florida in overtime Saturday, 8-7, to advance to today’s final against Georgia, who beat South Carolina, 8-4. Florida and South Carolina will play in a consolation game today at 11 a.m.

Florida became the dark horse in the tournament after beating the host University of Alabama Frozen Tide, 8-3, Friday night. Bama went on to beat Arkansas, 6-3, Saturday to close its season with a 20-8 record. In other games Friday, Tennessee beat Mississippi State, 24-1; South Carolina beat LSU, 9-2; and Georgia beat Arkansas, 8-2.

LSU beat Mississippi State, 10-2 Saturday.
