Della Jean Norris, born April 25, 1936, passed away Feb. 25, 2009, at the age of 72.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Horace E. & Glittis H. Massey; brothers, Jimmy and Jerry Massey; grandson, Kingsley Howell Walters and granddaughter, Ava-Rose Norris.
She is survived by her husband, Malcolm Norris; children, Penny (Roger) Abernathy, Ronnie (Dinah) Norris, Donnie Norris, Garland Norris, Jenny (Billy) Walters, Cindy (Leroy) Howton, Donna (Phillip) Jarvis and Michael (Nancy) Norris; brothers, William Boyd Massey, Horace Melvin Massey, Roger Dale Massey, Danny Joe Massey, Donald Wayne Massey and Terry Lee Massey; sister, Deborah Lynn Burnett; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
On Aug. 6, 1953, Della was married to her husband, Malcolm Norris, a marriage that endured for 55 years.
She was a member of Metropolitan Church of God.
She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend with a determined spirit making many sacrifices for her family and never will be forgotten.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Ginger Alred; her caretakers, Betty Jones, Yolanda Haynes and Lynda Bowlin; and her best friend, Maxine Davis.
A visitation reception was held in her honor Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at Charter Funeral Home from 6-8 pm for friends and the funeral service Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Amazing Grace Church at 11 am.
Officiating ministers were the Rev. Melvin Massey, the Rev. Victor Massey, the Rev. Roger Abernathy and the Rev. Chris Goins.
