Louise H. Eddings

Mrs. Louise Holcombe Eddings died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Ga.
She was born March 15, 1926, in Montevallo and graduated from Alabama College in 1946. She later obtained her master’s degree from the University of Georgia.
She retired from the Dalton Public School System after 27 years. She taught fourth-grade at City Park Elementary and Brookwood Elementary prior to serving as the system director of School Social Services.
During her years of service, she received numerous honors including The Daily Citizen’s News Woman of the Year 1981 and School Social Worker of the Year 1985.
She considered all of her students, her favorite students, enriching their lives into adulthood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Idalee Moody Holcombe and Arthur Holcombe; her husband of 59 years Raymond “Ray” Eddings; sisters, Hazel Nash and Mary Nita Collins; and brothers, Arthur Hoyt and James “Pete” Holcombe.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Susan Eddings of St. Simons Island, Ga.; Michael R. and LuAn Eddings of Rome, Ga.; grandchildren, Phillip Eddings, II of Salt Lake City, Utah; Michael Eddings of Atlanta, Ga.; and their mother, Mary Eddings of Robbinsville, N.C.; Erin Eddings of Gangneung, South Korea; Laura Eddings of Charleston, S.C., and their mother, Jennifer Besal of Charleston, S.C.; step granddaughter, Tracey and Andy Boozer of St. Simons Island, Ga.; step great-grandson, Zane Boozer of St. Simons Island, Ga.; sisters, Ann Hill of Palo Alto, Calif. and Becky Bolton, Birmingham; brother, Edward Holcombe of Little Rock, Ark.; many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Anne Jones and Charlie and Jane Jones, of Dalton, Ga..
Louise was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, and served on many community boards, including president of G.V.T.A. 1978-1979.
Her favorite past-times were her grandchildren, her yard and her flowers.
Memorial services were at the First Presbyterian Church, Dalton, Ga. on Monday, March 2, 2009, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Dalton.
