Matt Haskins’ solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning Tuesday propelled the Thompson Warriors to victory over the cross-county Chelsea Hornets (9-7) in the Gulf Shores Classic, 2-1.

Jordan Chism got the Warriors on the board in the third inning with an RBI, but it was the Thompson pitching that kept the Hornets at bay.

Zac Smith picked up the win after coming in for relief in the seventh, while Jake Hester started and went six innings, picking up 11 strikeouts.

MCADORY 8, CHELSEA 5: Jake Campbell and Harris Smith each drove in two RBIs off two hits, but it was not enough to push Chelsea past McAdory in the second game of the Nike Gulf Coast Classic.

-BRIARWOOD 10, CHARLES HENDERSON 0: Briarwood ace pitcher Ben Bracewell improved to 4-0 after shutting out No. 2 Charles Henderson Tuesday to avenge the Lions’ second-round 2008 playoffs loss.

Bracewell recorded 10 of the 15 outs needed in the five-inning game, facing a total of 18 batters in the Nike Gulf Coast Classic. He struck out six, allowed two hits and one walk.

At the plate, Paul McKelvey knocked in four runs and had one hit. Two of his runs came off a single and the other two with bases-loaded walks. Debo Crew also had two RBIs for the Lions, while Logan Crook had one.

Charles Henderson pitcher David Flemming walked six batters and hit one in one and two-thirds innings of work to take the loss.

Briarwood (10-2) plays Buckhorn at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

-OAK MTN. 7, CORNER 0: Oak Mountain collected 14 hits, while pitcher Jake Gayle held Corner to two hits Tuesday to win the Eagles’ first game of the Nike Classic in Gulf Shores. Luke Fleming led Oak Mountain with three hits, while Matt Stroup, Cole Prater, Cary Baxter and Drew Rosenberg had two hits each. Davis Dudchock hit a solo home run.

CULLMAN 5, SPAIN PARK 4: Spain Park lost its first game of the spring break tournament in Hoover Tuesday with a ninth-inning single by Cullman’s Ben Moore. Hunter Walker led the Jaguars with two RBIs in the game, but Spain Park stranded 14 runners on base in the game.

-RAMSAY 5, VINCENT 4: Ramsay’s Denzel Evans-Bell lifted the Rams to victory in the bottom of the seventh with single at Rickwood Field that scored the game-winning run on an error.

-COOSA VALLEY 15, 14, CENTRAL CHRISTIAN 0,0: Coosa Valley Academy won its seventh and eighth straight games Tuesday, sweeping Central Christian with 29 runs. The Rebels have now out scored opponents 91-24 in their last eight games, including a 64-8 dominance in their last five games played.

Gage Holmes (1-0) and J.B. Ripley (1-1) picked up the wins for the Rebels on the mound.
