Five Shelby County teams were shutout during the second day of the boys’ Metro Soccer Tournament Thursday. The only exception was a 5-0 victory by Briarwood over Thompson.

Cooper Harrington scored two goals to lead the Lions (10-2-2) to their first victory in the tournament after Wednesday’s opener with Indian Springs was postponed to Saturday. Alexander Faulk also scored a goal and had two assists. Thompson goalkeeper Javier Valencia had five saves, while Wilson Whorton had four saves for Briarwood.

In other Metro Tournament games, Spain Park and Pelham battled to a scoreless tie, as Taylor Curry had eight saves for Spain Park and Austin Pierce had 10 for Pelham. Oak Mountain was held to a tie for the first time this year, as Mountain Brook battled to a scoreless tie with the top-ranked Eagles.

The final county team held scoreless was Indian Springs, who fell to Hoover, 2-0. Hoover scored with 10 minutes to play in the first half on a goal by Nick Bibb and added another goal early in the second half by Robert Mann.
