Dennis named NJCAA Pitcher of Week

Pelham native Kelsey Dennis was named the National Junior College Athletic Association softball Pitcher of the Week March 25.

The Wallace State Community College pitcher struck out 46 in six games last week, shutting out her opponents in 33 innings of work. She allowed 11 hits and walked only one batter and hit one.

Dennis, a freshman, currently leads Wallace State-Hanceville pitchers with a 19-2 record and 186 strikeouts this season. Her strikeout total is the most in NJCAA Division I softball, as of March 27.

Dennis and the fifth-ranked Lions will host Columbia State for a doubleheader March 31 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Others receiving honors for the week ending March 22 were: Julia Diehl of Trinidad State Junior College, Division I Player of the Week; Tiffany Cupp and Stefanie Morong of Lansing Community College, Division II Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively; Kayla Critser of Mohawk Valley Community College, Division III Player of the Week and Monroe College’s Kristen Muhammed, Division III Pitcher of the Week.
