Mrs. Lillian Bert Garrett, a resident of Calera, where she resided for 31 years, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at a hospital in Pensacola, Fla. While in Calera, she attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church and Enon Baptist Church. She was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Tuscaloosa. She resided for 20 years in east Birmingham, where she was an active member of Ninth Avenue Baptist Church. Mrs. Garrett resided in Pensacola for the past 8 years, near her children, at the Wesley Haven Assisted Living Facility. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn John Garrett, Jr.; father, Alec Bert of Centreville; mother, Anna Bert Lowe of Dudley.
She is survived by seven children, Louise (Jim) Finch, Pensacola, Fla., Pat (Bob) Green, Fairhope, Diana Privett, Calera, Kristie (Randy) Gibson, Pace, Fla., Lynn (Pam) Garrett, III, Pace, Fla., Derrick (Annette) Garrett, Calera, and Barkley Garrett of Indiana; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
While a resident of Shelby County, Mrs. Garrett worked many years for the Council on Aging, as a Senior Center Manager and Intake Coordinator and with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She enjoyed traveling and served many years as an area tour guide for senior citizens. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Civitans of Montevallo, Alabama Extension Homemakers, and Eastern Star Lodge 434.
Funeral services will be held from the Chapel of Rockco’s Funeral Home, Montevallo, Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Shelby Batson officiating. The family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Shelby Memorial Gardens. Arrangements made by Rocko’s Funeral Home.
