Four Shelby County teachers have been named as National Board Certified Teachers. Christy Kearley and Stephen Kearley from Elvin Hill Elementary School, Kelley Smith from Oak Mountain Intermediate School, and Sandra Gallups from Oak Mountain High School.

National Board Certification is a voluntary assessment program designed to recognize and reward accomplished teachers. As part of the process, teachers build a portfolio that includes student work samples, assignments and video recordings of classroom teaching. Additionally, teachers are assessed on their knowledge of the subjects they teach.
