A 28-year-old-man accused of breaking into a Jefferson County home on Monday brandishing a machete knife, strangling a kitten in front of children and trying to sexually assault a 27-year-old woman is being held at the Shelby County Jail.

Though Randy O’Neal Davidson has not been formally charged in Monday’s incident, he is being held in Columbiana on outstanding warrants for burglary and theft of property issued in Shelby County, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Davidson’s bond is set at $200,000. He is expected to be charged today with assault, burglary, attempted rape and animal cruelty in Jefferson County, authorities say.
