As the Chelsea Lady Sting U10 Girls team took to the field Friday night at the Sportsblast 1996 Fields, they were vastly aware of the stirring competition Birmingham United South U10 girls would bring to the game. The fields were wet and the sky was dark, but there was something in the air – victory, a 9-0 win over BUSA.

Within the first four minutes of the game, Chelsea’s Lady Sting scored two goals. Game on.

By the end of the first half, BUSA had worked feverishly to make it to the net but was repeatedly denied. Chelsea goal keeper Asia Bradford was determined to land a shutout. The Sting was ranking chip shots, shots to the far post and a passing game that was unstoppable.

The U10 Lady Sting is running drills this week in preparation to take on Vestavia-Hogewood this Friday in Liberty Park.

CHELSEA U9 GIRLS

Going into Saturday’s game, the Chelsea U9 girls coached by Frank Guillen were undefeated, 2-0.

The whistle blew. And then, the unthinkable happened, Chelsea was rocked to their core as the U9 Vestavia girls took it to the net without wincing. Back to midfield, moving the ball back and forth, Chelsea couldn’t seem to gain ground, but Vestavia did, taking a 2-0 lead in the first ten minutes of play.

Chelsea began to lose momentum and then out of nowhere Kailey Littleford sprinted magic down the field. The wing tucked the number four ball into the lower pocket. Chelsea was alive, 2-1.

With the first half ticking away, both teams took repeated shots at goal but were denied as goal keepers were lunging and pouncing on every ball that came their way. Littleford took three shots, but each fell shy of the goal. Then, as if the first three were for practice, she sank the next and tied the game, 2-2. Before the half, Littleford hit a third goal taking the game to 3-2. She would later go on to score two more goals in the game.

Chelsea would go on to win the game 7-5. Chelsea U9 Guillen team will take on Vestavia-Hargrove this Saturday morning at Chelsea Forest Park, large field.
