Carriage crushed by massive tree

Clint Carlisle’s Magical Moments Carriage Company has seen its share of special moments.

Monday morning was not one of them.

Around 3 a.m. Monday morning, Carlisle’s brother-in-law, Shane Odom, heard a limb fall in the front yard of his Alabaster home off Highway 119 near Veterans Park.

Two hours later, the whole tree came down on top of Carlisle’s truck, trailer and carriage that he uses to operate his business.

“We came out of the house and we were like ‘Oh man,’” Carlisle said.

Magical Moments operates two carriages for events like weddings and birthdays.

Fortunately for Carlisle, the company’s primary carriage was covered up just feet away from the destroyed truck and trailer.

The back-up carriage was completely destroyed.

“I got lucky,” Carlisle said. “But that was still a good carriage.”

Carlisle said he has insurance on the truck and trailer, but not the carriage.

Carlisle also said his family was lucky because the appeared to have been leaning toward the house. The fallen tree was the only one Carlisle could find on the 62-acre property.

As soon as a State Farm agent inspects the accident, Carlisle said he will begin clearing the debris.
