Lloyd Charles “Lou” Fuhrmeister

Lloyd Charles “Lou” Fuhrmeister, age 87, of Birmingham, went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 14, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marianne, and his son, Jim, and his daughter, Jan (George), as well as his grandchildren, Chris, Will, Becky and Reuel. He believed that God came first followed by his family.
Lou was born in Churdan, Iowa. He received a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University and a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in Missouri. He served in World War II in the U. S. Navy as a Lieutenant JG on the USS John R. Craig. Lou retired from Monsanto Chemical Co. after 36 years of service.
Lou was an active member of Canterbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham and the JOY Class. Previously, he was an Elder in Westminister Presbyterian Church and in South Webster Presbyterian Church in St. Louis and in his Presbyterian Churches in Barrington, Ill. and Anniston, Ala. He was also chosen as a convention delegate to the Presbytery in Salt Lake City.
Lou has climbed Long’s Peak in Colorado and loved to hike, camp and river canoe. He was active in the Birmingham Committee of Foreign Relations, the Birmingham Dinner Club, and an avid golfer at Inverness Country Club.
