Strong storms moved through Shelby County on Sunday evening, downing trees and flooding streets.

The worst weather happened near the border of Alabaster and Helena, according to the Shelby County Emergency Management Agency.

Several roads were closed around Highway 11 due to flash flooding or downed trees and power lines. Alabaster police also reported debris in streets across the city.

All roads have been reopened, according to authorities

“It looks like we dodged a bullet,” said Mindy Nash, administrative assistant with Shelby County EMA.

The National Weather Service issued two tornado warnings for Shelby County between 6 and 7 p.m. Sunday.

The first storm moved from Weatherly subdivision in Alabaster down Highway 11 toward Chelsea and Westover. The second storm traveled a slightly more southern route, from Maylene to Harpersville and Vincent.

Several storm spotters and the Alabaster Police Department reported funnel clouds in Maylene and around Thompson High School. However, the National Weather Service has not confirmed any tornado touchdowns as of 9 p.m.
