Fifteen University of Montevallo student-athletes have been inducted into the inaugural Alabama Epsilon Chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma. Montevallo is the fifth college or university in Alabama to create a chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma, which is open to all student-athletes who have a 3.4 or above cumulative GPA and have achieved junior standing by their fifth semester. Inductees also have to have attended the University of Montevallo for at least one academic year.

Inductees for 2009 included men’s golf junior Tripp Cash of Troy, men’s soccer redshirt sophomores Michael Riggle of Louisville, Ky. and James Steer of Sheffield, England, men’s soccer senior Jim Witherow of Huntsville, cross country senior Brooke Deason of Trussville, junior runner Lindsey Golay of Sharpsburg, Ga., junior women’s golfer Rachel Shaner of Madison, women’s soccer juniors Brittany Correia of Birmingham and Erin Duncan of Windermere, Fla., soccer seniors Corey Gros of Victoria, British Columbia, Adele Jackson of Lincolnshire, England and Lucrece Laverdure of Melbourne, Australia, volleyball junior Lauren Markle of Metamora, Ill., and former Oak Mountain volleyball players Lauren Tortorici and Monika Tortorici, who are both seniors.

Montevallo joins Auburn University, Samford University, Troy University and the University of Alabama-Birmingham as universities in Alabama that have chapters of Chi Alpha Sigma. The Falcons are the first Division II institution in the state to have a chapter of the honor society.
