Chelsea Soccer Club’s U9 Guillen team took to the fields against one of their toughest opponents, Vestavia, April 24. As the sun began to set, players were anxious knowing this weekend would be their last to play this season. And then, the whistle.

Chelsea walked on field with utter determination but no less than Vestavia. Unquestionable speed and strength provided by wing Haley Greene and defender Kathryn Weygand were key throughout the game. Chelsea took several shots on goal. Near post to far post, it simply did not matter, the Vestavia goalkeeper was there to win. Similarly, Chelsea goalkeeper Meghan Butler was mindful of every move, every shot, determined to leave victorious. Shots didn’t come easy as both teams created defensive strategies that would keep the other from entering an effective score zone in the first half of the game.

After the half,  Chelsea’s passing game came alive as they began to shift the field to their advantage.  Left wing Kailey Littleford, center mid Carson Reeves and right wing Claire Guillen began passing and dropping with clear vision and purpose.  The final pass to Littleford from center mid allowed her to utilize unstoppable foot skills that would prove successful.  Littleford scored leaving Vestavia with mere minutes to catch up.  It wasn’t meant to be.   Three plays later, Reeves would solidify the win with a chip shot to center net.  Chelsea won 2-0.

Saturday morning, the U9 girls played their final game of the season against Northstar Shooting Stars.  They ended the season undefeated.
