Pelham football utility player Austin Demsky accepted a leadership scholarship from Millsaps College Wednesday and will play football for the Majors next year.

“They’ve told me I can play wherever I want,” said Demsky who has rotated positions over the past four years.

Demsky began his career for the Panthers as a back-up quarterback before shifting to tight end, defensive line and punter.

Pelham head football coach Brett Burnette praised Demsky Wednesday for his willingness to put the team first and change positions to fill the holes that came up. He said he’s sure he will continue to do what is best for the team at Millsaps.

Demsky first heard of Millsaps from family friends Andrew and Nathan Pearce who went on to play for the Majors after graduating from Kingwood Christian.

That friendship brought the school to Demsky’s attention, but for Demsky, it was the family atmosphere and open arm reception that sold him on the school.

He hopes to play on defense for the Majors.

Demsky recorded more than 70 solo tackles as a senior and six sacks.
