Torch Run to pass this way

The “Flame of Hope” will pass through the cities of Pelham and Alabaster May 15 during the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympics.

Registration for the annual event, which is open to federal, state and local law enforcement and correction officers, will begin at 8 a.m. in the Pelham Police Department parking lot, 3174 Church Street, said Sgt. Jeff Smith.

The two-day run kicks off in Decatur and travels through Hartselle May 14. Participants in the Shelby County leg of the run will depart from the Pelham Police Department at 8:45 a.m. and finish at Alabaster City Hall on U.S. Highway 31.

Pelham Mayor Don Murphy will offer remarks, and a local family will be recognized as the Alabama Special Olympics’ Family of the Year.

The run will continue through Montgomery and participants will cross the finish line in Troy.
