ACCC championship to continue as planned

After consulting with city of Alabaster officials, the Alabama Community College Conference has been decided to proceed with this weekend’s Fast Pitch Softball Tournament with caution.

The ACCC announced Thursday that it the tournament will remain as scheduled, May 2-5 at Veterans Park in Alabaster, despite numerous weekend events being canceled because of swine flu cases in North Alabama.

Coaches, students, fans and parents are being asked to remain aware of possible flu symptoms and to react in a prudent manner if symptoms are noticed.

The tournament will kickoff with a pre-tournament banquet for the top twelve teams at Thompson Middle School Friday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m. The double elimination tournament begins Saturday with the first game at 10 a.m. Games played on Sunday and Monday begin at 11 a.m. The championship game(s) will begin on Tuesday, May 5 at 11 a.m.

Admission to the tournament is $5 per day. Children 6 and under, along with any youth baseball and softball player that wears their team jersey, will be admitted for free. All games will be played at Veterans Park located off Alabama Highway 119.
