Altamont finished the job on both Indian Springs soccer teams Tuesday, as both fell, 3-2.

At home off Alabama 119, Indian Springs’ boys were unable to defend their 1A-4A state championship.

After Springs (11-7-3) took a 1-0 lead off a goal by Alex Jamroz, but Altamont countered to tie it on a goal from Pete Bolvig. The Altamont Knights took a 2-1 lead in the second half off a goal from Kyle Raburn, but Springs rallied to tie their rival with a goal by Taylor Hogan to force overtime.

The game was headed for a penalty kick shootout, but Simon Basilico scored a diving header on a free kick from Raburn with 22 seconds to play in the second overtime for the win.

“I’m disappointed, but in all honesty, I think Altamont was the better side as far as talent,” Springs head coach Rik Tozzi said. “All credit to Altamont. If we’ve got to be put out, there’s nobody else I’d rather be put out by.”

Tozzi said he felt good about his team’s chances in a penalty kick shootout. Now he hopes Altamont (12-7-4) will bring the championship back to the area.

“This isn’t just coach speak, I really want them to win it,” Tozzi said.

The Indian Springs girls (15-6-2) traveled to Altamont for their second round game. Altamont rallied in the second half to win the game on a goal by Addison Powell, while other Knight goals came from Karmen Gaines and Kathryn Holladay. Springs scored its two goals on a first-half own goal by Altamont and a second-half goal by Allison Moore. Both goalkeepers, Sunny Poyer of Indian Springs and Britt Williams of Altamont, had six saves each.
