Marie Cox, 80, of Wilsonville passed away May 8, 2009.
She was born Aug. 11, 1928, in Etowah County to Leonard and Dalton Battles. A graduate of Sardis High School and Snead Junior College, she married Travis H. Cox in 1949, settling in Wilsonville. Marie owned and operated Columbiana Jewelers for 40 years.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Travis Cox; five children, Steve (Jan) Cox of Birmingham, Jan (Jim) Yarbrough of Nashville, Tenn., Mark (Kim) Cox of Pelham, Melissa (Sidney) Summey of Alabaster and Chris (Jolene) Cox of Brisbane, Australia; brother, Don Battles of Phuket, Thailand; eight grandchildren, Travis Summey, Elaine and Allen Cox, Jim and Jeff Yarbrough, and Dalton, Maxine and Eve Cox.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Battles of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 11 at 3 p.m. at Bolton Funeral Home in Columbiana, with W.W. Vansant officiating.
Internment followed at Columbiana City Cemetery. Visitation preceded the service at 1:30 p.m.
