Former Shelby County High School catcher Meredith Sellers was named to the Ohio Valley Conference softball All-Newcomer Team this week after hitting .297 as the Jacksonville State University designated hitter this season.

Sellers had six home runs and 28 RBIs, while posting a .320 average with four homers and 20 RBI in OVC games.

The Gamecocks (39-13, 19-2 OVC) won their second-straight regular-season OVC title but were upset in last week’s tournament. JSU will travel to the 2009 NCAA Tournament this week, as an at-large bit in the Knoxville (Tenn.) Regional. The Gamecocks will face Nebraska (34-17) at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
