K–Springs Church of God had its beginning 107 years ago. Chelsea Community Church (CCC) turned one year old in March, the month the two congregations merged, and CCC re–located from The Narrows to K-Springs.

On June 14, the merged congregations will celebrate their shared history and heritage at Chelsea Community Church’s first annual “K-Springs Day.”

“Not only has the two (congregations) becoming one been a positive experience,” said Pastor Greg Davis. “The church is experiencing amazing growth. Apart, the two churches were running about 125 to 130 people. Now, the church averaged over 200 in April with almost 300 in attendance on Easter. It’s amazing. This fall we will be adding a second Sunday worship service. God is good.”

The church celebrated “Children’s Day” on May 31, with the children and children’s pastor, Rodney Turner, leading the service. Afterwards, the group enjoyed hamburgers, hotdogs and homemade ice cream. Then the children (including some brave-souls who are still “young at heart,”) cooled off with waterslides and a dunking machine, while some of the adults and teenagers braved the heat in a game of softball.

Davis said 250 people attended “Children’s Day” activities Davis said, but the number in attendance is not the most important thing. Three people indicated that they gave their lives to Christ in the service, making a total of at least 33 since the congregations merged.

“Then five more followed the Lord in baptism. That’s 38 baptisms in six weeks. And that’s way better than any water slide,” Davis said. “We are so excited about what God is doing. So many said joining two churches together would never work but, oh, were they wrong.”

The “K-Springs Day” service will begin at 11:30 a.m. and will include a short presentation about the church’s heritage. Everyone is invited and asked to bring a covered dish for lunch and time of sharing following the service. All persons with any past connection to the church or K-Springs Cemetery are urged to bring related pictures and other memorabilia to share.
