Pelham Flag Day Celebration June 14

The Verizon Wireless Music Center in Pelham will be awash in red, white and blue for the city’s first-ever Flag Day Celebration beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 14. Admission is free.

Sponsored by the Cahaba Valley Elks and the city of Pelham, the celebration will feature a patriotic variety show from The Blackwood Quartet, a Grammy Award-winning gospel group, as well as the presentation of the American and military flags.

“We’re excited about this family-friendly concert and so proud of our flag and our country, said Elks President Liz Bishop. “Pelham is such a patriotic community, we knew this would be the perfect place to host this free concert for the public.

“We think this is an opportunity to show our patriotism and respect to the men and women who serve in the armed forces, and to the families of those who have served us.”

Bishop said the Cahaba Valley Elks held its own Flag Day celebration in years past, but wanted to broaden the event’s appeal. Pelham leaders assisted the Elks with finding a suitable venue.

“We’re so pleased they chose Pelham for this all-American event,” said Mayor Don Murphy. “I think our residents and others from the area will enjoy the free entertainment on this Flag Day holiday.”

Bishop said the celebration will last until 5 p.m. Large group seating can be arranged through Ron Stutts at 919-2139.
