Weekend storms knock down trees, power lines

Strong storms this weekend knocked down trees and power lines through out the county, but no injuries were reported, according to the Shelby County Emergency Management Agency.

One tree fell on a mobile home in Westover on Friday.

Thunderstorms rumbled through the area Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.

The worst weather happened Friday, when some areas some wind gusts between 60-70 miles per hour, according to the EMA. Several roads were closed while crews cleared down trees and power lines.

Alabama Power estimates about 101,000 customers in the Birmingham area lost power Friday night, while Saturday and Sunday storms added 60,000 more outages.
