Gene Tunney Moreland, age 81, of Brierfield, passed away Friday, June 19, 2009 in Montevallo.
Visitation was held Sunday, June 21, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Rocko Funeral Home Chapel in Montevallo.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Nick Wells officiated. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera.
Mr. Moreland retired from Blue Circle after 38 years. He was also a Bibb County Commissioner for 8 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie L. Moreland; mother, Fannie Parks Moreland; father, Dove Moreland; sister, Elizabeth Fletcher; and brothers, Reid Moreland, Charles Moreland and Calvin Moreland.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol Higgins (Bruce); sister, Mary Hood (Elroe); grandchildren, Joseph Blake and Jarred Blake; step-granddaughter, Bridget Sanders (Nathan); step-great-grandchildren, Mason and Hannah Sanders.
