A popular Shelby County eatery has fallen victim to the recession.

The Saturday Gourmet, located in Mt Laurel, has closed its café.

However, its catering business is continuing.

Jenna Saturday, an owner of the business, said she hopes to re-open the café, but isn’t sure when that will happen.

“We were not getting enough traffic. It’s really the recession,” she said. “We love our patrons. We’re still doing catering, but we’re trying to make good business decisions. What we didn’t want is to have that decision made for us.”

Saturday said the business may relocate to another site more conducive to catering.

“We love our patrons. We love Mt Laurel. We’re sad. We’re grieving, but it was the right decision to make. We wanted to make sure we did nothing to compromise quality and decided to close now so as to leave our patrons with a positive impression. When and if we do reopen, patrons will remember that quality,” she said.

Jenna Saturday and Chef Aaron Saturday have operated The Saturday Gourmet since 2006. They opened the café in Mt Laurel in November 2008.

“Every business, to some degree is experiencing the recession,” she said.

A Pelham fitness center has also announced its closing.

Ladyworks will shut its doors on Friday. An employee at the business said the poor economy is to blame. She said the building will become a furniture consignment shop sometime in the future.
